The security challenge
Mathewson’s Auctions operates across multiple sites around the Pickering area, with several buildings at each location, as well as a merchandise shop and the North Yorkshire Motor Museum housing an extensive collection of classic cars, motorcycles and motoring memorabilia.
With valuable vehicles, stock, buildings and outdoor areas spread across several locations, the requirement went considerably beyond a conventional CCTV installation.
CastraGuard was tasked with providing an integrated security solution capable of protecting the different premises while allowing the client to remotely view and manage security across the estate. Some buildings also needed to be connected without conventional network cabling, while two additional premises had no fixed internet connection at all.
With valuable vehicles, stock, buildings and outdoor areas spread across several locations, the requirement went considerably beyond a conventional CCTV installation.

The CastraGuard solution
CastraGuard designed and installed a comprehensive multi-site security system using a range of Dahua CCTV technologies selected to suit the different areas being protected.
The installation includes TiOC cameras, auto-tracking PTZ cameras, auto-tracking 180°/360° cameras and multiple ANPR cameras for monitoring vehicles entering and moving around the sites.
Several cameras have been programmed to automatically detect people during out-of-hours periods. When activity is detected, the cameras can provide visual and audible warnings, helping to deter unwanted activity before it develops into a more serious incident.
With multiple separate buildings across the sites, CastraGuard also installed wireless bridges to provide building-to-building network connections without the disruption and expense of conventional cabling between each location.
Two additional premises owned by the family are located away from the main sites and had no existing fixed internet connection. CastraGuard installed NVRs, Dahua TiOC cameras and 4G routers with external antennas, allowing these systems to be accessed and viewed remotely.
The wider security installation also includes a smart intruder alarm with integrated fire detection. The system provides audible warnings at the premises and can send critical alerts to both the client and monitoring company when required.
CastraGuard also upgraded the existing Paxton gate access-control system, bringing another important part of the site's security infrastructure up to date.
The result
Mathewson’s now has a comprehensive security solution covering a diverse collection of buildings and locations.
Rather than treating CCTV, alarms, connectivity and access control as separate problems, CastraGuard designed the installation around the requirements of the wider operation. Intelligent CCTV, ANPR, wireless networking, 4G connectivity, intruder detection, fire detection and access control work together to provide effective protection across both the principal sites and more remote premises.
The completed system also gives the client the ability to remotely view CCTV across locations, including properties where conventional fixed-line internet wasn't available.
A particularly enjoyable project
We thoroughly enjoyed working with Mathewson’s on this project. As well as being an interesting and technically varied security installation, it was a real pleasure working amongst their fantastic collection of classic cars, motorcycles and motoring memorabilia.
